Something New and Something Old

I took a 6 week Photoshop class this summer at a local community college. For the final project I drew a tangle using a Wacom tablet. By keeping the areas, tangles, colors, etc. on separate layers I can display the result in several different ways. Here are 4 of them:

I learned a ton about Photoshop and using a Wacom tablet although I didn't find it very Zen!

For the Diva Challenge this week guest blogger Cari Sultanik challenged us to use organic tangles. Since those are my favorite kind I decided to add an extra challenge to it and finish the box I started tangling in February. I had thought to buy some Sharpie furniture touch-up pens to supplement my extremely old and nearly dried out collection of Pro Mark II markers. The Sharpies seem to be discontinued so I decided to supplement with the brown markers that I already have from Sharpie, PrismaColor, and LumoColor. All of these spread more than the Pro Mark II but I'm pretty happy with the result. A google search shows that Marvy makes some wood stain markers and most of them are on sale right now so I bought a set because I think this is a project I would do again.

Well, now I'm off to try and catch up on all of the things that didn't get done while I was working on the Photoshop class!

  1. j'aime beaucoup les couleurs choisies et la frise en haut qu'on retrouve sur les 4 dessins.
I like very much the chosen colors and the frieze at the top that we find on 4 tiles.

  2. Ah. Photoshop. I soooo need to improve my photo taking and editing skills. I'm a self declared travel blogger, so photos are an important part of my "job". Did you do your organic tiles on wood surfaces? If not, you certainly managed to simulate wood. Very interesting.

    1. Photoshop is a powerful tool for sure! Yes, the tangles were done on a box that I bought at Michael's. It is just the right size to hold finished tiles after their moment in the spotlight on my entertainment center.

  3. If I had a wacom tablet, I'd love to tangle like you did...I use GIMP (similar to Photoshop, but free). It would be so cool to layer the tangles. I love what you did and the examples you show! Happy Photoshoptangling. ;)

  4. Love the tangled wood box! It actually looks like it's been burned into the wood.
